What Not to Do While Travelling with your Boss

While working you often need to go on business trips, sometimes with your boss. Now, travelling with your boss is not an easy task to deal with. No matter how good your professional relationship is, you cannot forget that he is your superior. So, to help you out in having a delightful business trip and making a good impression on your boss, we present you with 5 common mistakes to avoid while travelling with your senior.

1. Getting Drunk

So you are travelling in business class (for the first time) and you thought a few glasses of champagne won’t hurt. And a few more, and then more! Think again! Before you know, you are crying on your boss’s shoulder, telling him all about your recent break-up. Well, kid you not, I’m sure that you don’t want that to happen, because it will become an embarrassing situation for you as well. When on a business trip, avoid drinking more than one peg. Getting drunk in front of your senior can bring out the crazy person inside you and can get you in an awkward situation.

2. Too much Luggage

While your boss brought a medium sized bag pack for the two-day business trip, you, on the other hand, brought two suitcases along with a huge handbag for the same. Not a good idea! The best way to avoid your superior’s eyebrow-raising is by packing light. After all, you would be busy with meetings and presentations. So you might not even get any time to go for any sight-seeing. Carry two pairs of casuals and a few formals, nothing more!

3. Disturbing Your Boss

I understand that you are getting bored and feel like talking to someone, but talking to your boss while he is reading the new book by Barkha Dutt, is not the answer. You don’t want your boss to give you that ‘Do not disturb me’ look, isn’t it! So, try to find something else to kill the time while he is busy. Read a book; listen to music or just take a nap (without drooling!) and you won’t even realise when you reached your destination!

4. Forgetting Important Documents

So, you decided to pack light, wore a nice suit and boarded the flight without creating any nuisance. And as soon as you opened your laptop bag to read that 54 slide presentation, you realised that you forgot some official documents at home. You will never be able to get that promotion if you ever do that! While packing all your clothes, pack all those documents in a safe bag as well, so that you don’t forget them on your study table. After all, you don’t want to commit a blunder like this when you are travelling with your boss!

5. Reaching the Airport Late

Forgot to set the alarm and reached the airport in your night pyjamas, just before the boarding time? With your boss screaming at you, for your carelessness and sloppiness, is certainly not a good way to start your business trip. Make sure that you reach the airport at least 2 hours before the boarding time, wearing proper formal attire, and a nice cologne. After all, the first impression is the last impression!

Anyone can get nervous when they have to travel with their boss on an official trip. However, if you keep these points in mind, then who knows, maybe your boss will open up to you and you both will return as good friends!
